In spite of the proliferation of all sorts of machines to help us in communicating, we have not yet come to a time where we can ignore the importance of speaking and writing clear and correct English. This becomes even more significant in business situations; especially since business is becoming more and more global. English is definitely the international language of business; so much so that even the French have capitulated and decided to redouble their efforts at teaching English as a second language in their schools. Everyone knows that the French have always been mother-tongue-proud and refused to even consider that they need to master English. One of the reasons why we in Singapore can hold our own in the world of commerce is our proficiency in the English language. (We need to thank our Minister Mentor who, when he was PM, decided that we need to keep our English at a high level, comparable to the standard in Britain.) If you are an executive, administrator or someone aspiring to be such, mastery of Business English will mean that you will be comfortable speaking or writing in any work situation, anywhere where English is spoken or written, and in the presence of anyone. If you are not yet confident when expressing yourself in English, here is an opportunity in our 3-day 'Mastering Business English' Course. Days 1 & 2 We have gone through the entire English grammar (well most of it anyway) and extracted all the aspects of grammar that you will most likely use in business situations. Many of these are only touched upon in general grammar books and by English teachers in our school system. Day 3 We cover usage of English in business situations; we do lots of exercises on style and vocabulary. Exercises We give lots of exercises that will, once and for all, dissolve all doubts about tense, subject-verb agreement, pronouns, number etc. For all our exercises we use business situations and terms that participants would be, or ought to be, familiar with such as those used in correspondence, meetings, reports and business presentations. Topics include: · Tenses · Conditionals · Verb combinations · Passives · Modals · Multi-Word Verbs · Adverbs · Nouns · Articles and Quantifiers · Describing Nouns · Subject-Verb Agreement · Style |
